Twitter makes the limit of 140 characters more flexible
Photos and videos will no longer be counted in the content of the messages
The social network Twitter relaxed this Monday the rule that limits its 'tweets' to 140 characters, announcing that the photos will no longer be counted in the content of the messages.
"Say more with your 140 characters! Photos, videos, GIF, questions and quotations will no longer be counted," the company tweeted, which seeks to expand its audience and achieve benefits.
Amid rumors that Twitter would be looking to cut costs or even be acquired, the company based in San Francisco has added services, including live videos.
The latest decision makes it more flexible, although it does not completely eliminate the 140-character limit, which had been established because of the limitations for text messages transmitted by mobile phones when Twitter was launched in 2006.
Analysts warn that Twitter needs to find ways to attract users beyond the core of celebrities, politicians and journalists, whose number has stalled in the last year. In the update of its last quarter, Twitter announced that the monthly number of active users reached 313 million, 3% more than a year before and slightly exceeding 310 million from the previous quarter. Twitter has not made a profit yet, although it has notoriously increased its marketing resources.
