Apple won 17,891 million dollars in the first quarter, 2.6% less

The sale of its iPhone phone grows, a rise that experts attribute to the fiasco of its competitor Samsung, forced to withdraw the Galaxy Note 7 due to the failure of its batteries

Apple registered a net profit of 17,891 million dollars in the first quarter of its 2017 fiscal year, 2.6% less than in the same period of the previous year, when it achieved 18,361 million.

Apple's October through December revenues totaled 78,351 million, an amount higher than the 75,872 million in the same quarter of the previous year and which represents a new record for the company in this section. In addition, revenues from the iPhone, Apple's main source of business, grew 5% year-on-year in this first quarter to 54,378 million.

Experts believe that the company based in the Californian city of Cupertino could have benefited in this regard by the fiasco of its competitor Samsung, who was forced to remove the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone because their batteries were overheated and they could burn.

Record sales

The operating profit of Apple from October to December 2016 stood at 23,359 million dollars, an amount lower than the 24,171 million of the same quarter last year. With these data, shareholders earned in these three months $ 3.36 per share, when in the similar period of the previous year, $ 3.28 per share was recorded.

"We are excited to report that our quarter of the vacation period (a time that often benefits the company) generated the highest quarterly income of Apple ever," said today in a statement the CEO of the technology giant, Tim Cook.

The executive stressed that in this quarter also reached historical records in terms of iPhone sales, Mac computers and Apple Watch smart watches.
